KL Ranch Camp ~ On The River is located in New Braunfels Texas, outside the city limits. Take in the scenic views as you drive up River Road and discover the hidden natural beauty of the Guadalupe River.
With a multitude of camping and river recreation, from New Braunfels to Canyon Lake, finding the perfect location may be a challenge. One stop at KL ~ On The River and you will have found a magical place to call home for years to come. We are a family owned and operated business; providing camping for over sixty years! It’s wonderful to see multiple generations returning to the same campground each year.
Camping at KL ~ On The River is an annual family tradition for many.
Our river front camping borders the banks of the beautiful Guadalupe River; the access is superb! The scenic bluff views across the river and our unique set of Stair Step Rapids are simply stunning! Each of our spacious campsites offer a minimum of fifteen hundred square feet of functional camping space; allowing multiple families to camp on the same site. Daily Campground Security keeps our campground quiet, peaceful, and family friendly!
When prime river access, scenic views, and spacous campsites aren’t enough, we also provide exceptional customer service! We focus on “the golden rule” and providing quality service with the highest levels of customer satisfaction. We do everything we can to meet your expectations!

Established in 1954, we are now on our Third Generation of Ownership as a Private, “Family Owned and Operated” Campground!
Our History
The First Tubers at KL Ranch
The owner’s Great-Great Grandfather began acquiring land in the 1870’s which was to become KL Ranch. During his lifetime he acquired over 1700 acres of land (currently the campground section consists of approximately 10 acres of river front property and the ranch section about 1367 acres). During this time, a man named Louis Klappenbach leased the property on which to graze his cattle. He used his initials “KL” for his cattle brand. After time, he sold all of his cattle to Mr. Bretzke along with the cattle brand. Therefore, the property came to be know as the Bretzke Ranch and later KL Ranch. In the 1950’s the river property began to be developed as a campground. It was called KL Picnic & Campgrounds. In the 1970’s the name was changed to KL Ranch Camp by the former owners, now retired: 2010 & 2013.
The campground currently operates as two individual businesses:
